My feet will tred
the dead and dying leaves
as you leave me

People will say we had
a full and long love and life
in chronological years
and measured time
in days and weeks and months
and years and memories
we have loved long
but not long enough
I already know
the time will come
and you will leave me
to live once more alone

I will sit
like old women everywhere
and watch the sun set
through dusty windows
with just my cup of tea
and wait until I follow you
not just to the grave
to lay with you there
with the dead and dying leaves
but beyond
where you wait for me
Until then
I will sit and watch the sun set alone
and know we loved long
and well
but it wasn't long enough...
